Since being there last time, a number of entries have been done into the guest book. Some nice drawings and some very friendly words (with a number of mentions of “Father’s Porridge”, whatever that means) to boot.

The Launch of the Trailer Park

The hotel has finally officially launched the trailer park. To be honest, it was a great success with loads of people and interest from all quarters. The media was all over it and the Three Bears trailer got a lot of PR. Next stop: Top Billing!

I think the caravan is about ready to receive it’s visitors. Mark and Joe take a pose in the lounge for the cameras (ah, heady fame), then it’s all over. Bar the YouTube and Flickr sites, of course.

The coming of The Golden One

The return of the Golden One is referred to in the letters that are hidden in the bottom drawer in the kitchen. These are letter that papa bear wrote to himself, from the future, when he’s had time to reflect on the Goldilocks incident in its full context. Most of the people who helped with this project came along to have beer with the bears. And then some other people came. And then some complete strangers. It carried on till late, seems everyone wanted a tour and Mark was only happy to oblige.

Joe has been making cutains till the bears come home. Literally, they are the last things to go up before the sun rises on the day of the “soft launch”. We like to think of it as a Caravan Warming.

Noleen Read, a fantastic potter, made all the crockery for our new home. It’s all hand-made, decorated with words and images taken from the Bear family history. Goldilocks also appears every now and again. They were all done with three sizes in mind; big, medium and small.

…and in this case, Alex van Tonder did the writing. She also made up the To-Do notes, the stickies, letter from Daddy bear (from the future), a mother’s day card from Baby bear, etc, etc, etc. These will be hidden away or displayed on the fridge, whatever is relevant.

When bears shit in the woods, (where else?) they like a little privacy. A foldy-away concertina type door is just the ticket in a cramped caravan. The original door needed a little TLC to make it work again and a tree was added to make it a forest. Now you know where to go when you gotta go.

Gaffer tape - man

After a lot of experiments, good old gaffer tape proved to be the ideal solution. It has the same texture as the original material, is a good colour and sticks like crazy. Now, to try and figure out how to draw a picture with it onto an undulating 3D folded surface.
